Privacy Policy for LangSim
This policy explains how Kurian Ventures UG (haftungsbeschränkt) ("we", "us", or "our") handles personal data when you use the LangSim mobile application and related services.

2. Data we collect
- Account and profile data: email address, name, account identifier, sign-in provider, authentication status, and profile information you choose to provide. Guest accounts receive a pseudonymous account identifier.
- Learning data: language preferences, settings, progress, practice history, streaks, saved content, lesson results, pronunciation feedback, and other activity needed to provide the learning service.
- Content and voice data: text, conversation content, and audio you submit for translation, speaking practice, transcription, pronunciation analysis, or AI conversation. Microphone data is collected only when you activate a recording or live-speaking feature.
- Support content: messages and images you choose to provide when contacting support.
- Device and usage data: device and operating-system information, app version, IP address and request metadata, usage events, feature interactions, notification token, diagnostic information, and crash reports.
3. How we use data
We use personal data to:
- create and secure accounts, authenticate users, and provide LangSim;
- process requested language-learning, speech, translation, and AI features;
- save preferences and progress and personalize learning experiences;
- send service messages, password-reset emails, and push notifications you permit;
- measure feature performance, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and improve reliability;
- respond to support, privacy, and account-deletion requests; and
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
4. Legal bases
Where the GDPR applies, we process data as necessary to perform our contract with you, based on your consent for optional permissions such as microphone access and notifications, for our legitimate interests in securing and improving the service, and where required to comply with law. You may withdraw consent through device settings or by contacting us; withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing.
5. Service providers and disclosures
We do not sell personal data. We disclose only the data needed to providers that help operate LangSim, including:
- Google Firebase for authentication, account infrastructure, and cloud messaging;
- Apple and Google when you use their sign-in services;
- Cloudflare for API delivery, security, and file storage;
- Neon/PostgreSQL infrastructure for application data storage;
- PostHog for product analytics;
- Sentry for diagnostics and crash reporting; and
- OpenAI and Google Gemini to process text or audio when you request AI, speech, translation, or conversation features.
We may also disclose data when required by law, to protect users and the service, or as part of a corporate transaction subject to appropriate safeguards.
6. International transfers
Some providers process data outside Germany or the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses, or other legally recognized safeguards.
7. Retention
We keep account and learning data while your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the service. Submitted content, operational logs, analytics, and diagnostics are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, subject to provider retention settings, security needs, backups, and legal requirements. We delete or anonymize data when it is no longer needed.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal data. No internet or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing; receive a portable copy of data; withdraw consent; and complain to a data-protection authority. You can manage microphone, camera, and notification permissions in your device settings.
To request deletion, use the in-app account deletion control or email us. We may need to verify your request.
10. Children
LangSim is not directed to children under 13. Users who are below the age at which they may consent to data processing in their country must use the service only with authorization from a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child provided data without appropriate authorization, contact us so we can investigate and delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes to LangSim, our providers, or applicable law. We will post the revised policy here with a new effective date and provide additional notice when legally required.
